Don't bother your sis dude; she is a girl after all

I happened to come across an article saying IIT campus lack girls. It discussed how this problem could be dealt, raising various vicarious issues. Proposals were made to slash down the admission fees by half to encourage the parents, to inspire there daughters to try for the IITs. The problem was scrutinized to the conclusion that in our country there are not enough opportunities for the girls. People do not prefer to send the daughters to the coaching institutes and most of the time they cannot afford to. To discourage the couching practices, emphasis were made to change the pattern of the entrance exam (JEE).

What I felt after reading the article was that these geeks have sworn hard to not analyze the problem for the remedy. I agree that even in the contemporary India women do not find enough alternatives, but this is not the cause for this particular problem. I have been to coaching institute and am quite aware of the economic status and the background of the fellow mates. Most of them were from well to do families which could have afford the fees of their sisters as well, still we never got to see many girls in the institute. The trend of the coaching have emerged form late 90s. IITs and JEE have been into the existence for not less than 40 years, but the lopsided sex ratio has been more or less the same for the entire period. Issue is not that of the discrimination for the opportunities but, of the differences in the aptitude. Aptitude is something which cannot be developed by the crash courses, but requires constant hand on experiences on relevant stuff.

Difference in the aptitude between the males and females in today's youth of our country is the consequences of the difference in the brought up of the children in the Indian families. On the one hand parents claim to be open-minded and educated; at the same time they practice different modes do deal with the male and female child. Small experiences at the child level itself contribute in a big way when the individual weather he or she grows to an adult. Almost all of us have experienced the comment from our parents at the time of quarrel with our sibling, "Don't bother your sis dude; she is a girl after all". When ever mother in the family needs an aid in the kitchen stuff, I don't know why but even if she has the choice to make a call for the son and daughter for the same, she prefers to go for the latter one. This is probably because she had also undergone the similar experience when she was a child. Father in the family will never ask the daughter to fetch a draft from the nearest bank. Probably because he feel how can he expose his sweet heart in the struggling environment, but I don’t know how to enlighten him, that if he will have such attitude towards her, she will definitely lack something. Most of the parents do not have an issues upon spending on there daughters, but the problem with them is that they shield them so much and interfere a lot in there decision making, they forget that sooner or later there ward has to be in the system, it is inevitable.

Problem is not concise to parenting only but, is with the general attitude of every one. I remember an incident when I was in school some 12 years back. I had a dispute with one of my class mate, on the occasion I did not regret to slap her to answer her arrogance, and I have no shame in admitting that I faced the reverberant act of her. We had to face the music of school administration for the punitive act of ours, but the music was different for both of us. I was caned, and had to keep standing in the class for couple of days, but her case was dealt in a different manner. As per the school admin, being a girl and getting into an offensive feud was definitely unusual, she had to face the torturous counseling form the principal. I am not arguing hear that if she would have caned equally she meight have developed similar aptitude as boys do have, but what I want to make out is that, the way she was treated certainly led her to believe that her lines of action has to be very deferent from that of the boys. Point I want to make here is that the system around us in this country perpetually reminds us of being a man or a woman. You are a girl and you are not supposed to do so. I am not arguing here that the dichotomy in the attitude is right or wrong, what I want to make out is that dichotomy surely is the cause of the difference in the aptitude of the grown ups. When I say that the dichotomy in the attitude needs to be removed I donot wish that that we should stop the courtesy showen to wards the females. For example, we should continue to stand up to give seat to a women traveler in bus.

Engineering is a profession where analytical aptitude is required. In order to be proven a good engineer, one needs die hard attitude to search the cause and the fix for the problem. How will this attitude be developed in the daughters when moms call there sons to fix the regulator of the cooking gas cylinder or to change the fuse 100W bulb. Gone are the days when the daughters used to score bad in science or mathematics, and parents were not worried because they had alternate carrier plans for their daughters, and at the same time prefer to scold hard there sons for the similar bad performance. I do agree that now parents are equally worried for their sons and daughters about the class performance, but it would not suffice. Performing well in the school curriculum would not guarantee a break through in the competitive exams. Especially JEE it needs an aptitude as well. If not more than at least 30% of the pupils clearing JEE had scored less than 70% in there higher secondary exams, I being one of them.

I don't condemn the idea of having more female candidates in IITs, and I am convinced that further changing the pattern of the JEE may lead to increase in the intake of girls, but aren't we compromising with the aptitude of the incoming Junta (both males and females)? Wouldn't we be inviting the pests who got inspired to clear JEE not quiche the curious inner thrust, but to eat the IIT brand? Among the engineers produced by the IITs, how many of them would be true engineers and how many of them would be mere rubber Stamps?

Why God? and Why Religion?

Well, you talk about Sikhs worshiping Gurus as inhuman Deities, I would say it’s not only restricted to Sikhs but this practice is followed by every one in general. Gautam Buddha preached not to worship statues (stone), but in entire history you will find his statues the most in number. How I look this is as follows

Why was the concept of God came into the picture, well I guess in the early time (at ape mans time may be), there were many things in nature which man was not able to conquer, like fire, violent rivers, continuous rains turning to flood. All these developed sense of fear in him. The curious nature of man produced different questions like, why was all that happening. Man was not intelligent enough to look things globally. Being a self centric in nature he started believing that all this is conspiracy against him, but who the hell is conspiring and what’s the reason behind this conspiracy. In that period it was very vulnerable that Man started to believe in some hypothetical powers controlling his surrounding. He was afraid of those powers, and constantly felt that there might be some rescue. So what else it could have been than another power superior to the previous one. They started calling the superior one God. To feel secure they associated themselves to the superior powers and thus the concept like “we are the children of God” came into existence. I will come back to it latter.

Now what is religion? I see it as discipline. Why was it introduced? I see it as follows. Human was emerging in the nature as a creatures with Varity of skills. The capability to use those skills also varied from an individual to another. One can observe in nature that the creature of every species has emerged with an independent control system. (You remember Charls Darvin theory survival of the fittest.) We see the design of independent individuals in all the life forms because that is the best. In accordance to this design every individual has a tendency to use the skills it has for its own betterment, we call this tendency selfishness. There is another parallel pattern in nature to be observed; that individuals in all the life form live in groups. In this Dynamic and grievous nature, it was easier for those species to exist longer who adopted to live in clusters. This adaptation of living together led to the development of different modes of communication in different species. So the individuals started to broaden the spectrum of there concern to other individuals they were associated with, we call this act as loving others. There could be logical explanation for all the feelings and emotions we do have, but let us concentrate on these two.

Human have been living in the society with constant internal struggle between the two forces or rather two mechanism inherent in him. Sometimes the individual interest dominates the society’s interest or sometimes the vice versa. In the earlier period of human existence there was no law and order to monitor the usage of the skills possessed by the individuals. In that era for the benefit of the society and for the benefit of individuals (or rather for the continuation of the existence of humans) some thing was required to monitor each and very individual. What else it could have been than the concept of God which was already developed in the humans by observing the powers of nature. The very first intellectuals who realized the need of observance in the society conceptualized God as an omnipresent observer and prepared the guidelines to lead a disciplined life. Those set of rules is nothing but religion.

I don’t claim whatever written above is the absolute derivation, it is something cooked my mind with the understanding I do have in today’s world, I agree that it might be completely ridiculous. But the point I want to make is that I strongly believe or rather feel that, we or for that matter our surrounding was not created but has emerged with time. (Don’t ask what time is??) There is logical reason for each and every thing that exists in this nature, it includes the human emotions, human feelings, concept of God, and of course the religious practices. This whole universe is dynamic in nature; nothing could exist for ever, that doesn’t mean that there has to be a destroyer, and he will destroy things at his own will.

Let’s come back to my hypothetical story. Assume that the intellectuals had written down the set of rules which I call religion was definitely for the betterment of the mankind. Why the people, who didn’t know the logic behind those rules, started following it? I guess answer can be obtained if we study the human nature a little more. Humans have been getting inspiration from various sources in his surroundings and this inspiration is one of the reasons behind the achievements of human. These sources could be any thing, it may be some object, some other creature, or as most of the time some other individual from the society. This inspiration latter turns into desire, and it forces him to perform actions to fulfill the motive of his inspiration. There are hundreds of parameters involved and all of them are never in his control. If the involved parameters somehow turn into the favor accomplishing his task, he gets satisfaction followed by another inspiration from some other source and then the same thing goes on. But in case out of those hundred parameters even if one parameter turns against, ruining his desires, lets him fall into the depression. From hear another quest starts, that’s the search of the cause of failure. In most of the cases he cannot figure out the reason behind. That’s because he cannot dictate all the involved parameters. There fore he starts believing that if he is not controlling them, then somebody surely does, who else it could be than the supreme power so called God. At this point of understanding, the question which arises in the human mind is that what so ever it is, why it has turned against him and what should he do to make it in his flavor.

In such a state of desperation to turn the odds into the favor, when the “intellectuals” presented their theory of discipline life to impress the supreme power, the poor human was bound to at least try that out. When he started to follow the shown path, that is adaptation of disciplined lifestyle, he observed that some of the unfavorable parameters have turned around. This happened not because somebody was “impressed” but coz those parameters were failing due to his indiscipline nature. This let him discover that since he has started to follow those rules in life there has been an increase in the probability to achieve the tasks he desire to. I see this increase in probability as nothing but increase in “faith”. A simpler way to understand this is that future is nothing but the resultant of present and past deeds; one cannot turn around the past but surely can improve the present. Every thing happening around is the consequence of some other thing in the past, this universe is functioning is the consequence of Big bang. It’s another philosophy and I don’t intend to get into that. Coming back to the story, the majority of the junta started following the concept without knowing the logics just because of the fear factor. This fear is of annoying the Supreme Being, one who has the powers to turn anyone’s life hell. The purpose of religion was definitely not this but, it turned out this way because most of the beings were not compatible to digest the logics.

Hear I want to express that I strongly feel that the concept of religion has been one of the most important causes of human existence. Without this the so called intelligent species would have destroyed itself ages back. No matter what for the intellectuals have formulates these concepts and no matter what means they have acquired to make the society follow these concepts practically, the fact is that we will get extinct if we stop following this.

Coming back to the fear factor, I do agree that following the religion brought lot more achievements like pleasure, happiness, satisfaction, love and what not. But these achievements were never the incentives for most of the men to continue the religious path; it’s the fear factor which has constraint him. For example ask a layman to perform as irreligious act; he will most definitely not do so, not because doing so would abstain him from the benefits of being religious, but because of the fear that the God may punish him in near future. A basic human tendency: You are not getting something positive its fine, but never fetch negative.

Now when the people realized the benefits of following the religious hypothesis, as per the inquisitive nature of human, he tried to explore more about the nature of God. At this point when the intellectuals tried to explain that its shapeless, matter less, it does exist but not in usual form and blab blab blab… It was really impossible for the most of the people with relatively less intellect to digest the explanation. At this point of time they introduced symbols, Medium, Acts, and hell lots of stuff to remind him constantly about the existence of some power. Since the most of the people were not clear about God and they were in dispread need of something that would make them feel secure, they started seeing those symbols as God.

Let’s come to today’s world. Situation is not in a much different state. People do need a medium, to have faith on. On the name of this medium there has been and there is lot of exploitation, that’s another story. Point is that you can never explain masses the need of religion without concept of God, and to digest the concept of God they need medium. What Sikh gurus tried to explain was (I guess) the concept involved (Concept of God, Concept of Religion) without medium. In there life period they might have succeeded in enlightening the people of that era, But today that enlightment has lost and today’s world is back to square one. Most of people are not in the state to know the concepts and do need the God factor in life, so they do look for a medium. In Gurudwaras they find it in the holly book, in the photographs of gurus, weapons of gurus, and in hundreds of other things. Living in the Influential Hindu culture which believes in millions of inhuman deities, what is the harm in ten more of them, if it is solving the purpose of keeping the masses under constant fear factor, so that they may lead a disciplined life.

Howard Roark was a God

Five strong characters.... and I feel Howard Roark was a God... I don't think there could be such a person in existence... In the beginning when he was kicked out of the institute of Architecture,I thought that I am like him.... to hell with world, I will do what I like and what I want.... but I guess was wrong... what I want is not rigid.... I am flexible with the path I chose to achieve what I want...Howard Roark was a real God... he did not change his beliefs his attitude for worlds sake.... he had full confidence on his work coz his work was logical ... his work was appreciated by the intellectuals in the second half..... but that was not his motive of life... in fact he never gave a damn about peoples view about his work.... he was confident that his designs were natural and not at all plastic.... that confidence was the killing thing that I liked the most in the character of Roark.... the beauty in the personality was that he never tried to change the world.... He never fall in argument to prove his work better than others....

on the contrary was the Elsworth M Toohi... so r we all who try to change the world, change the surroundings in some way or the other way.... Toohi was a clever man with skills no less than Howard Roark's.... his approach was to manipulate and cast his views on the people... as he had the power of pen.... he was a practical man but he was not god... He was the person who me and u can aim to be ... but we cannot become God .... we cannot become Howard Roark.....we the people are influenced very easily....

Gail Wannand poor fellow like many of us who thought that 'he do' as we think 'I will' run the things around here... He didn't knew , as we all never care about... and which Howard Roark knew very well, so did I noted that ... " Nature has given 1 and 1/2 KG of brain on each individuals head... so that each one may think about one's own deeds, one's own activities, so that one may control self and should not try to control others.... coz others have got there own 1 and 1/2 KG stuff... If one needs help he will come to u. YOU PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO MAKE OTHERS WORK IN UR WAY... people were working on Gail Wannands wish coz they were happy to do so as they were getting there earning out of it... no body can force any one to do something unless and until the individual himself is willing to do so....

Dominique Falcon was the character I was unable to digest completely...I don't think that there could be a women of that sort coz women usually don't think that much.... or rather I should say that they usually do not think in that way... although girls r unpredictable but such an unpredictable woman like Dominique cannot exist.... I don't understand why the hell did she marry Peter Keeting.... what did she want to prove.... I think that Dominique and Gaill Wannand were made for each other....If she would have not messed up with Roark , she might have ended up a happy life with Wannand as she was working in his firm, sooner or latter they would have got to know each other.....
